Each year, as part of the Poverty and Homelessness Week mission, various groups at Centre College sponsor fundraising efforts in order to help fund specific projects that are relevant to the year’s theme. Opportunities to be involved in fundraising efforts are listed below:
- Friday Night Swipe: Because of Centre’s collaboration with Sodexo, who provides food and dining services for all campus activities, students are able to donate their Friday Night Swipe, with the money that would have been spent on dinner instead going towards a bulk sum to be donated at the end of the week. Contact Hannah Gibbs (email@example.com) with question.
- GoFundMe: In order to make online fundraising available, a GoFundMe will be activated during the week that can be shared via social media. Contact Hannah Gibbs (Hannah.firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
- Think Outside The Box: A marathon-style event, APO’s annual Box Sleep Out is an all-night event of service, education, and activism where a number of volunteers stay out for twelve hours from Friday evening to Saturday. Anyone can sponsor a volunteer with a lump sum or per-hour donation. There are participant profiles for anyone interested in seeing who is planning on staying out all night. Contact Jin Lee (email@example.com) with questions.
- Table Donations: Volunteers will be working Cowan tables every day at lunch with event information from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those wishing to make a cash donation can stop by at any time. Contact Hannah Gibbs (Hannah.firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
With support, these fundraising efforts can have a large impact on the populations we are trying to collaborate with. Last year’s fundraising saw nearly $3000 raised for the Myaing Gyi Ngu Internally Displaced Persons Camp in collaboration with the Center for Global Citizenship and through the work of a now-alum of Centre with a personal connection to the area.
We are hoping that involvement continues and continues to improve this year. More information on this year’s partner organization/group is coming soon as the Poverty and Homelessness Week Committee makes a final decision.
