Every year, as a final marathon event of Poverty and Homelessness Week, the members of Centre College’s Alpha Phi Omega: Theta Theta chapter host Think Outside the Box event which runs 12 hours from 6 p.m. on the final Friday to 6 a.m. on Saturday morning as a dual fundraiser and educational event.
Throughout the night, attendees have the chance to participate in a wide variety of events, ranging from Professor-led talks to Poverty and Homelessness in music to trivia to a Poverty and Homelessness Walk through Downtown Danville in order to lead discussions on the varying topics of Poverty and Homelessness.
Before the event begins, those staying out all night collect sponsorships from people ranging from parents to faculty members to staff to friends to other participants, and earn a certain amount of money for each hour spent engaging in the event. All of that money is donated to the Poverty and Homelessness Week fundraiser or affiliated non-profit, and last year’s event was able to raise nearly $800 in one night due to its volunteer participants and the strong support of the Centre Community.
A full schedule of this year’s Box Sleep Out event will be coming soon!
